Who Am I and What is My Intent?

My name is Ray, I am a Christian and an IT professional for a global healthcare company. I live in the south east United States and am a lay member of a Global Methodist Church. I am not seminary educated but have taught various Bible studies for more than 20 years.

I am starting this blog because I feel led to share some of the insights that have been shared with me over the last 30 years. These insights have been drawing me closer to Jesus. I call myself an aspiring disciple because I don’t get things right all the time. I do strive to do better each day. Discipleship is a journey and it starts in God’s Word. My journey through the Bible has been and continues to be a long and winding road. Thanks to God’s Holy Spirit, re-reading passages can sometimes reveal new meanings.

The Bible is not a book we read for reference and history. We read God’s Word because it is as relevant today as it was when it was written. It is important to look at Scripture with three questions: What? So what? Now what? What, is what does the passage say? So What, is simply, OK I read that, why did it matter enough to be recorded, why is it important? Now what, is the what am I going to do about what I’ve read? What should I do differently now that I have read and understood the passage? To just read Scripture like we would read a novel would strip the Bible of its power. The Bible has to make a difference in our lives; if not It is no longer be God’s Word in our lives, it’s just another collection of stories.

I hope you will be blessed in reading this blog as I know God will bless me for researching and writing it.

God Bless You!

Ray
